This is an “open” platform intended for in-vehicle information and entertainment devices, developed by Magneti Marelli in compliance with the requirements set forth by the GENIVI Alliance (the association that brings together more than 150 companies from all over the world – including leading carmakers, automotive components manufacturers, electronic and ICT industries), and consequently certified in accordance with the compliance specifications of said Alliance.
The platform is based on Linux, the most popular open-source operating system, and adopts hardware and software compatible with standards requested by the automotive world in terms of resistance and performances, also integrating connection to the vehicle electronic network. The platform already includes the basic structure that enables functions such as connectivity to consumer electronic devices, the display of Internet contents, wireless connections (WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth), the playing of high-definition multimedia and audio/video contents, radio and Hi-Fi digital audio management, and the installation and update of new applications. Since it is an open platform, in the future software programmers will be able to provide their applications, which will be easily integrated in the system.
