Audi signs agreement with Saic for the direct production in China
The official announcement came this morning, but already last Friday Audi and China's SAIC (which has a consolidated joint venture with the Volkswagen Group) have signed a memorandum of understanding to start its own production in China of Audi's models together with the local company.
The new agreement will allow Audi to strengthen its presence in the main market in the world where already several of its models are assembled thanks to the other partnerships that the Volkswagen Group has with First Auto Works with production plants in Foshan and in Changchun.
In detail, the Foshan factory produces the compact A3 and its derivatives, while at the Changchun plant are currently built the Q3 SUVs and Q5, in addition to long wheelbase versions of the A4 and A6. And the A6 will soon have a plug-in hybrid variant to be launched in China.
