BMW produced 3,5 million vehicles in Spartanburg
BMW celebrates the production of its 3,5millionth unit at the American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The milestone car is a white X4 xDrive20i that from the nearby Port of Charleston will reach a Fuyang Chinese customer.
The Bavarian Group is investing about 1 billion dollars to expand the plant structures, where are currently produced X3, X4, X5 and X6 SAVs, waiting for the debut in 2017 of the new X7.
The costs will help to unveil a new center for painting, strengthen logistics activities and it will increase the production pace on the assembly shifts dedicated to X5 and X6.
Once that even the X7 will be fully operational, the production capacity of the plant in Spartanburg will rise up to about 450,000 units a year.
Only in 2015, the factory produced 400,904 vehicles, a new record for a plant which is already the more important for the Group globally. Currently, the daily production arrives at 1,400 units and about 70% is exported.
