On December 12 the last Opel produced in Bochum
The historic Opel plant in Bochum has now come to an end with regard to automobile production. GM Europe (who has decided to shut down the factory to return to profit) has sold the facilities and Maynards, the auction company charged of managing the transaction, announced that Bochum will make its last vehicle on December 12.
The sale will involve various structures of the plant, but the vehicles assembly line is not included in the sale. Production was almost completely transferred to other Opel's German plants (Opel currently builds the Zafira Tourer and Zafira Classic minivans at the plant).
At the moment some offers to buy the factory has come from eastern Europe, Turkey, India or Thailand. The Bochum plant was opened in 1962 (with the Kadett) and it was the largest in Europe.
