GM to make Chevy Spark EV battery at Detroit plant
General Motors Group announced that it will start making the battery pack for the pure electric version of the Chevrolet Spark minicar at its Brownstown Township plant near Detroit.
Until today, the battery was built by an unspecified external supplier. The decision to shift Spark EV battery production to the Michigan plant comes after GM revealed that the factory would get a 65 million dollars investment.
The new battery are lighter than the previous version. But the weight reduction won’t affect the vehicle’s fuel economy rating.
