Hyundai Mobis accelerates on autonomous driving
Hyundai Mobis plans to use the test facility opened last June in Seosan, in the southern province of Chungcheong, to test autonomous driving technologies and sensors, essential for future "driverless" vehicles that will be available by 2020.
For this purpose, the company will increase its investment in research and development from the current level of 7% of turnover to 10% by 2021.
In addition, it will invest 50% of it in the Information and Communication Technology sector, which is closely related to autonomous driving and to the correlated expansion between labor force and research and development infrastructure, as well as the active promotion of technical partnerships with global companies.
The company will increase its R & D employees for autonomous driving from the current 600 to over 1,000 by 2021 and will also increase the number of M.Billy, the global autonomous test vehicles, from 3 to 20 by next year.
