Maruti Suzuki produces 15 million units
Maruti Suzuki became the first Indian manufacturer to reach the prestigious milestone of 15 million units produced. This was announced by Rajiv Gandhi, executive director of production for Maruti Suzuki India.
A Dzire VDi sedan which rolled-out from its Manesar facility became the 15 millionth car.
To provide the main contribution to the achievement of this goal is the Alto (and its derivatives) with 3.1 million units, followed by Maruti 800 with 2.9 million cars produced.
The 800 was the first Maruti assembled in December 1983.
