Mercedes global leader in the premium segment in September
For the third consecutive month, Mercedes was the world’s best-selling luxury car brand surpassing its rivals BMW and Audi. It is therefore also happened in September with Mercedes able of reaching 188,444 units sold compared to 180,475 for BMW and 170,900 for Audi.
To push Mercedes sales, the constant offensive especially in the sports utility segment with the GLA, GLC and GLE models.
Offensive that is allowing the Stuttgart carmaker to stay behind Audi in the year to date period (first time since 2010) with a total of 1,376,424 units sold compared to 1,347,950 cars delivered by the Ingolstadt rival.
In the nine months, BMW is still the world leader with 1,395,780 premium cars sold. Mercedes is thus gradually bridging the gap even from BMW and at this point we don't exclude surprises later this year.
Mercedes is gaining ground especially in China where it does better than BMW and Audi to stem the slowdown in the main market in the world. In the eight months, Mercedes has indeed gained 31%, while the growth of BMW and Audi has been contained to one digit. The fourth quarter will therefore be decisive for the segment.
