Renault opens new Algerian plant in Oran to produce the Symbol
Renault has officially opened its new Algerian plant in Oran at the presence, among others, of the local Prime Minister Mr. Abdelmalek Sellal and of Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault Group.
The factory will be initially specialized in the assembly of the new Symbol, a model well known in the North African market for its excellent quality/price ratio, the complete equipment, reliability, and comfort.
In these first months of operation, the plant will have one production line with an annual capacity of 25,000 vehicles.
A second phase with an increase to 75,000 vehicles per year is under consideration and it will include closer integration of suppliers, as well as body and paint shops.
Renault Algérie Production has hired close to 350 staff in recent months. These new employees have been trained at the automotive training center in Oran and by Renault experts.
The Symbol developed for the Algerian customers will be the first in the country to have a GPS navigation system.
