Toyota and Lexus to sell 300,000 hybrid models in Europe
"We're on track to sell close to 300,000 hybrids in 2016. That is a new record for us and position Toyota and Lexus as leaders in electrification."
With these words, the Executive Vice President of Toyota Europe, Karl Schlicht, reiterates the great success of Toyota and Lexus hybrid models in the Old Continent, success witnessed by the 45% growth already recorded year to date.
Sell 300,000 hybrids would represent a third of the total of the Toyota Group in Europe (the forecast is in fact 900,000 units by the end of 2016) and now Western Europe alone absorbs 41%.
Toyota Europe began its "hybrid" commercial career in 2000 with the launch of the first generation of Prius (the new series is already pretty successful) and since then have been sold more than 1.5 million Toyota and Lexus hybrid units at the European level .
The Japanese carmaker aims to reach a 50% hybrid market share on the total by 2020 when a hybrid version will be available in each of the major market segments in Europe.
The hybrid model increase for Toyota Europe will be facilitated by the imminent debut of the new Toyota C-HR and Prius Plug-in and of the Lexus LC 500h coupe.
