Volkswagen and Siemens make the crossroads safer
Volkswagen and Siemens are conducting a series of tests in the city of Wolfsburg, home of the VW Group and also a project partner, to make road intersections smoother and safer.
The project includes a first phase of preparation of a section of a main street of the city, used as a real laboratory, in which ten intelligent road signs will transmit the phases of all the traffic lights nearby to the passing cars.
Future vehicles equipped with the Car2X technology, capable of receiving and processing such information, will thus be able to inform the driver, for example when all the traffic lights in succession are green, thus avoiding unnecessary braking or sudden acceleration.
With the consequences of saving fuel and avoiding dangerous situations. To this end, two of the "test crossings" in Wolfsburg are equipped with modern sensor technology that also detects pedestrians and cyclists.
