VW invests to produce a compact sedan in India
Volkswagen will invest the equivalent of about 85 million euros in a project for the development of a new compact sedan that will be manufactured at the Indian plant in Chakan, near Pune.
The car will have its world premiere at the New Delhi Auto Expo next January and it will be assembled at Chakan by the first half 2016.
The new model will fill a Volkswagen's gap in the Indian compact sedan segment. Costs for the new entry are part of a broader investment plan that has already led VW to open an engine factory in the country.
